Pavlovian Bitch-Slap
I get into the office early—usually between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. I like the quiet that comes with having most of the office to myself. It gives me time to catch up on things, read, and of course, getting a little blog reading and writing in.
I also love peanut M&Ms (or M&M peanut, as the kids who sell them on the subway call them). They are probably the only candy that I actually crave from time to time. In fact, at one point in my life, though briefly, I think I might have lived purely off of peanut m&ms, which is further proof that I cannot, under any circumstances, eat just one. Or just three. Or forty. Peanut M&Ms seem to hamper my impulse control so severely that, if it weren't for actual work that needed to be done, I'd spend my entire waking hours loading them into my gullet.
You see, about once a week, as I’m sitting in my quiet office, I hear the token clink. Our CFO, who is insistent on torturing my metabolism with a never-ending stream of peanut M&M provisions in her office, has arrived. The sound of candy-coated peanut M&Ms hitting glass jar instantly perks my ears and stimulates chocolate longing and salivation. Even at 8 a.m.
How weird it is to become a Pavlovian statistic.

How I long for some now. In that oh so beautiful jar, that is difficult to close. Here, they have sweets in several locations. Not too good for my diet. And soon, it will be blowing up peeps season. One of my favorites (thanks VJ). maybe calla can video it, so others can share in the joy.

They ARE just one ingredient short of "nature's perfect food", that is, Snickers. You've got two of the basic food groups there - chocolate and peanuts. You need caramel and you are on your way a perfect meal.

It is always the season to blow up peeps! But we will photograph it-- hopefully it will happen before we move...I doubt such activity will be appreciated in the new office space...
Dad, the problem with caramel, in terms of eating mass quantities, is that it sticks in your teeth. I love Snickers, but peanut m&m's just always hit the spot...

That is beautifully written. Now I have fallen prey to your calorific imagination and must resign myself to feeding the inner dog this day.
Rumblings and salivations!
Oh, that makes me think of a mixed-nuts recipe adapted from Union Square Cafe. Woof.
