All Hail Curtis
The New York Times has a feature on Curtis' Barbecue today:
Head northward on Route 5 to Putney, and you'll come upon Curtis' Barbeque, run by a self-taught barbecue man named Curtis Tuff. He arrived in Vermont from Georgia more than a quarter-century ago as an apple picker, and never left. His operation consists of two blue school buses and a constellation of picnic tables. The ribs are big and filling, and eating them with proper abandon requires a number of moist towelettes afterward.
The article neglects to mention Curtis' pet pig (she's HUGE) and his fabulous cole slaw. Go there. Curtis' has been a tradition in my family for as long as I can remember.

What a find! Ribs are my favorites - and to find a REAL BBQ place in Vermont was a gift from God. Really great ribs - I always skip the sides to make more room for the ribs - and I love the atmosphere - just like home - GA

I love Curtis' ribs..went there 2 summers ago, and was looking on site for an address/directions as Spring is coming and have to get out there again...this IS the best place to get on your bike and ride out to for a great meal...messy yes !! but so worth the ride, the food and the atmosphere of sitting outside and enjoying the company, and watching Curtis cook !!
Check it out - amazing food...and the Curtis vanilla soda rocks too :)

When we lived in Connecticut, we would drive 2 hours to Putney just to have lunch at Curtis' BBQ. Great BBQ and great atmosphere. We live in Maryland now and miss our trips to Curtis'!
