Agreed, this is not the best picture in the world, though it is perfect for conveying the way I feel right now. Slow. Kind of glazed over and tired. If it was socially acceptable in a professional setting, I might let my tongue loll a bit. Snapping back has been a bit of a process this week. If Irving would stop obsessively making a bee-line for my back every time I try to sleep (he lounges like a sphinx between the shoulders at night these days), the transition might be a little easier.

The new year has brought a number of new tasks and opportunities my way. The semester doesn't start up for another week or so, though my desk is already a bit piled with instructions for journal book reviews, guidelines for thesis advisement (as in me advising someone, not me being advised), potential interviewees for the Officer's Row Oral History Project and a pile of ideas for Year Two (!!!) of the Modern Letter Project. I feel a little overwhelmed just thinking about it...perhaps that is one of the sources of my lethargy. That and a 15lb orange cat with a bald, warm belly sleeping on my back.

Alexis gave me a quite lovely and completely unexpected holiday/birthday gift this year- a new phone that begins with an i. It's taken a lot of getting used to but I love it. In fact, I can't stop fiddling with it. I haven't had a new gadgety toy in a long time (photo equipment aside) and it has brought back a lot of geek glee that I'd all but forgotten. Plus, the calendar and task lists really come in handy these days. Now I just wish that I could dual-sync them with gCal.

If you do find a way to sync with gCal, let me know. Also, third party applications will be released sometime around March. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY...don't undock your phone if it's syncing, it'll temporarily brick the phone until you reconnect. (Learned the last one the hard way.)

I can sync one-way betweeen iCal and gCal, but that's rather useless. right now i'm just importing the gCal info into iCal but it's not that helpful. hoppefully some api will come out that resolves it, as I'd rather not have to use another piece of software to mediate between the two.
