Seats

2007_04_14%2023.jpg

For the past year or so, I have noticed a coming and going of chairs at our bus stop. They must arrive at some point very early in the morning, as I have walked by at six and seen them resting beneath the shelter. For a while I thought that they were some sort of art project but, as time has passed, I've come to assume that they are purely utilitarian. The funny thing is that, unless it is a weekend, they only last for about a day and then disappear...only to be replaced a few weeks later with another rickety but functional place to sit. On Friday I noticed that someone had created a makeshift trash can next to the seats, as well, which made a lot of sense because a few months ago all of the receptacles on Van Brunt Street vanished.

There's one of those up near my office. It looks kind of uncomfortable...but then again, I'd rather some seat than no seat. I've always wondered why some bus shelters have seats and others do not. There's one with seats two stops up from us, which is odd because it's not a high volume stop.

the problem with the new shelters is that the seats are soooo cold when its cold out because they were metal. times like these that i think plastic might have been a better choice than metal.

Some curtains, a little end table, a nice little round rag rug.
