A Memorial Day casualty? The world may never know.

I like the ambulance in the background. Perhaps this is where the tree has gone ...for an emergency meeting with the defibrilating paddles!

I really want to figure out the story behind this one. Quite odd.

Did you see the most recent Park Slope/Caroll Gardens, etc Paper? There is an article about the dark side of the "greenest block in brooklyn" contest. Plant & tree stealing may be more common than we think.....->!
P.S. I lost my cell phone

I talked to John the gardener about it and there are several theories:
-an unscrupulous landscaper
-someone with a garden
-kids doing vandalism just for the hell of it
He said the interesting thing is how who someone suspects says a lot about them. For example, someone from the projects blamed it on "the artists" in the loft building that sits on one corner of the park...

I knew a gardener years ago who stole plants. He is dead not so that rules him out. I wouldnt put it past anyone of the local hipsters who calls themselves a "real New Yorker". It could also be the tree was sick and under warranty. The contractor removed it without notification, without replacing it yet. I worked for Parks and have seen that done.
