Saturday Find
On our walk to the summerhouse last Saturday morning, we snooped around at a few Carroll Gardens stoop sales, hoping to find something fun. The biggest contender was a miniature plastic pool table, of which I only wanted the balls because I thought it might be fun to teach the cats how to play modified croquet.
Lex suggested that the toy was for sale as a set and I begrudgingly agreed. I ran my hand over the velvety tabletop one last time and, out of the corner of my eye, spied a whisker embedded within the felt.
"Do you think its okay if I take this?" I asked him.
Silence. Blink. Blink.
I held the whisker between thumb and pointer, inspecting it.
"Im taking this. Give me your wallet. I will put it in your change pouch."
Silence...and finally, as we walk away and I continue to ask if he thought it was okay, my Almost Husband speaks:
"Darling, this is why I love you."

I can picture you and Lex walking around your neighborhood forty years from now being just as in love as you are now. You will probably have a substantial collection of cat whiskers.

I love how this story is both endearing and remarkably strange.

Sweet story. It's a shame you didn't get the balls, though: I would have loved to see Kitty Croquet.
