Return of the Puffy Coat
Aside from its warmth (which I completely understand), what is the allure of the giant puffy coat?
This morning, sitting in the center seat of three F train seats, I was sandwiched between two middle school boys wearing the puffiest jackets I had ever seen. Both seemed to have lost their arms and necks. Their fur lined hoods touched the tips of their skull capped heads, giving one the appearance of a gigantic blueberry, as from head to toe he was in matching navy blue. Arms were jammed deeply into pockets, causing the puffiness of the coats to envelop their upper appendages.
Their jackets puffed out from their bodies nearly five inches in each direction, insulating both sides and preventing me from turning, lest I meet a face full of down filled parka. It was as though I was packed for shipping.
I�m not sure about the middle schoolers flanking my left and right, but I was snuggly warm and nodding off. Perhaps that�s the allure. At least for the person who winds up sitting next to the puffy coats.
